Four Christmas Songs
The first people to grasp what Christmas meant did not write theology papers. They sang. Mary magnifies God for seeing her lowliness and keeping His ancient promises. Zechariah blesses God for sending a King from David's line who defeats sin and death, not merely foreign rulers. Simeon holds the infant Jesus in the temple and declares he can now die in peace. Each song opens a window onto who Jesus is and what He came to do. Together they make the case that worship is not a religious add-on but the truest response to the news that God has come to rescue us.
In the face of an overwhelming situation, a young woman named Mary breaks into song. Her Magnificat reminds us that worship is the antidote to worry when we trust in a God who is powerful, holy, and merciful.
God has kept His ancient promises. Through Jesus, the long-awaited King from David's line, He conquers sin and death so we can live with Him in holiness and righteousness without fear.
Salvation arrived in a humble family at the temple, bringing peace to those who had waited their whole lives to see God's promise fulfilled.
